Is this evidence of an ancient civilization on Mars? Hardly; this is an off-road trail in the Calico Mountains, that I photographed with my DJI Phantom 4. November, 2017.
Some areas of the desert do remind me of the Martian landscape, though.

…is illustrated here. Notice how your author’s Jeep Cherokee is almost a tiny speck, in comparison to the surrounding landscape.

Another folded rock formation in the Calico Mountains. This image was taken during a visit in November, 2017. DJI Phantom 4. 1/2500th sec. F/2.8. ISO 100.
This is one of my earlier filming attempts, with my DJI Phantom 4.
I basically followed the campfire scorch mark up the side of the hill, and was then treated to a breathtaking panorama of the Calico Mountains.
Here is another interesting “abstract” photo, that I took with my DJI Phantom 4.
Location: Calico Mountains, CA.

I really enjoy black and white photography. Ok, my DJI Phantom 4 can’t take photos in black and white, so I have to convert the images to black and white in “post-production.”
Even so, the contrast between light and shadow fascinates me, and is dramatically illustrated in this photo that was taken in November, 2017 in the Calico Mountains.
…is what I think of at times, when I’m in the desert. Perhaps this is just the perspective of someone who grew up on the east coast.
But, the barren landscape of the desert is a big part of its allure, to me. Some of the images that I’ve captured with my DJI Phantom 4 (https://www.dji.com/phantom-4) add to the alien world-like feel to the desert, such as the image below:
